Infant Lip and Tongue Tie Symptoms

When an infant has a lip and/or tongue-tie, there are many signs both the child and mom may exhibit:

Baby’s Symptoms

  • Shallow latch on breast or bottle
  • Slow or inadequate weight gain
  • Reflux-like symptoms or frequent spit-up
  • Excessive gas and fussiness
  • Clicking or smacking sounds during feeding
  • Milk leaking from during feeds
  • Fussiness or frustration while feeding
  • Baby often seeming hungry and not full

Mom’s Symptoms

  • Discomfort during latch or breastfeeding
  • Flattened or misshapen nipples after nursing
  • Cracked, blistered, or sore nipples
  • Inconsistent emptying of breasts
  • Recurring engorgement, clogged ducts or mastitis
  • Declining milk supply
